HYROX Bordeaux 2026
Bordeaux enters the HYROX calendar for 2026 with a five-day event from September 30 to October 4. It is one of four French stops in the season alongside Paris, Lyon and Toulouse, giving French athletes a genuine home circuit across the country. The early-autumn slot means pleasant temperatures and a city that has settled back into its rhythm after the summer tourist peak.
For international athletes, Bordeaux is a compelling destination race. The city is known worldwide for its wine region, Atlantic coastline and one of France's best-preserved historic centres. A long weekend combining HYROX with Bordeaux's food and wine culture is hard to beat.

Getting There
By Air
- Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport (BOD) — the city's main airport, about 12 km west of the centre. Direct bus (Liane 1+) and tram (Line A extension) connect to the city in 30-45 minutes
- BOD has direct flights from most major European hubs including Paris, London, Amsterdam, Madrid and Frankfurt
- Budget carriers (easyJet, Ryanair, Volotea) serve BOD extensively, making it affordable to reach from across Europe
By Train
- Bordeaux Saint-Jean is the central railway station, located on the south bank of the Garonne within walking distance of the old town
- TGV services from Paris Montparnasse take roughly 2 hours, making Bordeaux one of the fastest TGV connections from the capital
- Direct TGV services also connect Bordeaux with Toulouse (~2h), Lyon (~4.5h) and Marseille
- The station is well connected to the tram network (lines A and C) for onward travel within the city
By Public Transport
- Bordeaux has an excellent tram network with four lines (A, B, C, D) covering most of the city and inner suburbs
- TBM bus services fill gaps not covered by the tram
- Single tickets and day passes are available from tram stops and the TBM app
- The city centre is compact and walkable, particularly between the train station, Place de la Bourse and the Chartrons district
By Car
- Bordeaux is well connected by motorway: the A10 from Paris, A62 from Toulouse, and A63 from Bayonne and the Spanish border
- The city centre has a low-emission zone and limited parking — if driving, park at a P+R (park-and-ride) on the tram line and take public transport in
- Once the venue is confirmed, check whether it has dedicated parking or if tram access is the better option
Where to Stay
Until the venue is confirmed, central Bordeaux is a safe choice that keeps you close to the tram network and within easy reach of most event venues.
- Saint-Pierre / Vieux Bordeaux — the historic heart of the city. Excellent restaurants, walkable streets and direct tram access. Mid-range to premium hotels
- Chartrons — a former wine-merchant district on the Garonne's left bank, now full of independent shops and restaurants. Good hotel options and a relaxed atmosphere
- Gare Saint-Jean area — practical for train arrivals. More budget-friendly, with direct tram lines to the city centre and major event venues
- Mériadeck / Gambetta — central business district, slightly quieter than the tourist areas. Good mid-range hotels with easy tram connections
- Budget travellers will find hostels and guesthouses around the train station and in the Capucins market area
Tip: Bordeaux is a popular weekend destination year-round. Hotel prices rise during wine events and rugby weekends. Book as soon as you register for HYROX to secure reasonable rates.
Training in Bordeaux
Bordeaux has a strong running culture and a growing functional fitness scene. The city's flat terrain and riverside paths make it excellent for run training, and several gyms now cater to HYROX-style preparation.
- CrossFit Bordeaux — the city's established CrossFit affiliate with functional equipment including rowers and ski ergs. Check for HYROX-focused classes or open gym sessions
- CrossFit Rive Droite — located on the right bank of the Garonne, with a good range of functional training equipment
- Standard commercial gyms (Basic-Fit, Fitness Park) have cardio equipment but may not have sled tracks or wall balls in a competitive HYROX setup
- Ask your specific gym about sled availability before travelling — not all locations have them
Running Routes
- Quais de Bordeaux (Garonne riverbank) — flat, paved paths running along both banks of the Garonne. The left bank from Pont de Pierre to the Cité du Vin is a popular 5-8 km out-and-back route
- Parc Bordelais — the city's largest park in the Caudéran district. Shaded paths and a 2 km loop, good for intervals and tempo runs
- Jardin Public — a smaller central park ideal for recovery runs and short intervals
- Right bank paths (Bastide) — the Parc aux Angéliques and surrounding paths offer quieter running along the Garonne's east bank with views of the old city
- For longer runs, the Bordeaux–Lacanau cycling path extends west toward the Atlantic coast — flat and traffic-free
