HYROX Geneva 2026

Geneva brings HYROX to the French-speaking side of Switzerland for the first time in 2026. Sitting at the southwestern tip of Lake Geneva with the Alps and Mont Blanc as a backdrop, the city is one of Europe's most scenic race destinations. The October date means mild autumn weather, and Palexpo's location directly at the airport makes international access remarkably easy.

Together with St. Gallen in January, Geneva in October gives Swiss athletes two domestic HYROX options in 2026. For athletes based in neighbouring France, Geneva is also the closest HYROX event to cities like Lyon, Grenoble and Annecy. The city's international character means English is widely spoken alongside French, making logistics straightforward for visiting athletes from anywhere in Europe.

Getting There

By Air

  • Geneva Airport (GVA) — international airport with direct flights from most European capitals, select North American cities, and Middle Eastern hubs. GVA is directly connected to Palexpo by a covered walkway — you can walk from the arrivals hall to the venue in under 10 minutes
  • GVA is compact and efficient. From landing to leaving the terminal typically takes 20-30 minutes
  • EasyJet has a major base at GVA, offering cheap flights from across Europe
  • Free public transport ticket: Geneva Airport provides a complimentary Unireso ticket (valid 80 minutes) to all arriving passengers — pick it up from the machine in the baggage claim area before exiting

By Train

  • Geneva Cornavin — the main train station, with direct TGV service to Paris (3h 15min), regional trains to Lausanne (40 min), Bern (2h), Zurich (2h 45min) and connections to Milan, Lyon and beyond
  • Geneva Airport station — directly below the airport terminal, connected to Palexpo. Regional trains from Cornavin take 7 minutes
  • From Cornavin to Palexpo: train or bus 5/28, approximately 15 minutes
  • Swiss trains are punctual and frequent. The SBB/CFF app is the best way to plan journeys

By Car

  • A1 motorway from Lausanne and eastern Switzerland, A40 from the French side (Annecy, Chamonix)
  • Palexpo has large on-site parking. Expect CHF 15-25 per day on event days
  • Geneva city centre has limited and expensive parking — Palexpo parking is a better option than trying to park downtown and take transit
  • A Swiss motorway vignette (CHF 40/year) is required for all cars on Swiss motorways. Available at the border, petrol stations and online

Where to Stay

  • Airport / Palexpo area — several hotels within walking distance of both the airport and the venue, including NH Geneva Airport and Crowne Plaza. The most convenient option for race day
  • Cornavin / city centre — widest range of hotels and restaurants, 15 minutes to Palexpo by train. The old town, lakefront and restaurants are all accessible on foot
  • Carouge — bohemian neighbourhood south of the centre with independent restaurants and a village atmosphere. 20 minutes to Palexpo by bus and train
  • Across the border in France — towns like Ferney-Voltaire, Annemasse and Saint-Julien-en-Genevois offer significantly cheaper accommodation and are 15-30 minutes from Palexpo. Popular with budget-conscious visitors
  • Geneva is expensive. Booking 6-8 weeks ahead is recommended. The French border towns offer 30-50% savings on accommodation

Tip: October in Geneva is beautiful — autumn colours along the lake, mild temperatures around 8-16 degrees Celsius, and fewer tourists than summer. The lakefront promenade is ideal for a post-race walk.

Training in Geneva

Geneva's fitness scene reflects its international population, with a mix of CrossFit boxes, chain gyms and outdoor training opportunities. The lake and surrounding mountains provide world-class running terrain within minutes of the city centre.

  • CrossFit Geneva — established box with functional training equipment, Concept2 rowers, SkiErgs and a competitive community. Contact ahead for drop-in availability
  • CrossFit Leman — located near the lake, offering classes compatible with HYROX preparation
  • Holmes Place Geneva — premium gym chain with cardio equipment, free weights and group classes
  • Training Park (outdoor) — Parc des Bastions and several parks along the lake have outdoor fitness stations for calisthenics and bodyweight training

Running Routes

  • Lake Geneva waterfront (Quai du Mont-Blanc to Parc La Grange) — flat, scenic lakeside path with views of the Jet d'Eau and Mont Blanc. 5-12 km depending on how far you extend. The most popular route in the city
  • Parc des Bastions / Promenade de la Treille — central park running through the old town, short but scenic. Good for recovery runs and warm-ups
  • Arve river path — follows the Arve river south from Carouge towards the French border. Flat, quiet and well-surfaced, 8-15 km out-and-back options
  • Mont Saleve — the mountain overlooking Geneva from the French side (1,379 m summit). Accessible by cable car or on foot. Trail running from the base to the summit is approximately 8 km with 800 m of elevation gain — serious hill training
  • Bois de la Batie — forested park west of the centre with trails and moderate elevation, 3-5 km loops
  • October temperatures in Geneva range from 8 to 16 degrees Celsius — ideal running weather. Mornings can be cool, especially near the lake

Nearby HYROX Races

Geneva sits at a crossroads of three countries, putting several European HYROX events within reach:

  • St. Gallen — January 16-18, the other confirmed Swiss event (approximately 300 km northeast, 3.5 hours by train)
  • Lyon — France, approximately 150 km northeast (1.5 hours by train from Geneva)
  • Milan — Italy, approximately 340 km east (4 hours by train via Lausanne and the Simplon route)
  • Nice — France, approximately 550 km south (5.5 hours by train or 1 hour by flight)
  • Paris — France, 3 hours 15 minutes by direct TGV from Geneva Cornavin

Race Day Tips

  • Arrive at least 90 minutes before your wave start. Palexpo is well-organized but large, and check-in queues can build up at peak times
  • Transport: If flying in, Palexpo is a 5-minute walk from the airport terminal. If staying in the city, take the train to Geneva Airport station — it is the fastest option
  • October weather in Geneva is mild (8-16 degrees Celsius) but bring a warm layer for before and after racing. The venue will be warmer inside once the event is underway
  • Geneva accepts both CHF and EUR in many shops, but change is always given in CHF. Palexpo vendors will likely accept cards
  • Bring your own gels, energy bars and water. On-site catering varies between events
  • Spectators get in free at HYROX events
  • Geneva is bilingual in practice — French is the official language but English is widely spoken, especially in the international district around Palexpo and the airport
  • Post-race: Walk along the Quai du Mont-Blanc for lakeside views, have fondue in the old town, or take the cable car up Mont Saleve for sunset views over the city and lake
