HYROX Houston 2026

Houston brings HYROX to Texas in late March 2026. The fourth-largest US city has a huge fitness market -- gyms and CrossFit boxes everywhere, plus weather that allows outdoor training year-round. The March 26-29 date lands in the sweet spot: past the cooler winter months but before Houston's summer heat and humidity become brutal.

Houston is one of America's most diverse cities, and you see that at the starting line. Athletes come from across Texas and the Gulf Coast states, plus international participants from Mexico and Central America. The George R. Brown Convention Center is a massive venue in downtown, surrounded by hotels, restaurants, and Discovery Green park.

The Venue: George R. Brown Convention Center

The George R. Brown Convention Center (GRB) is one of the largest convention facilities in the US, with over 860,000 square feet of exhibit space spread across multiple halls. Located in the eastern end of downtown Houston, it faces Discovery Green, a 12-acre urban park that works well for warming up and cooling down. The Hilton Americas-Houston and Marriott Marquis Houston are both connected to the convention center by skybridge, making it possible to walk from your hotel room to the HYROX course without stepping outside.

Getting There

By Air

  • George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) -- Houston's main international airport, about 23 miles north of downtown. Taxi or rideshare costs $40-60. No direct rail connection; the bus 102 (Park & Ride) runs to downtown but takes about an hour
  • William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) is closer at about 11 miles south. Taxi or rideshare runs $20-35. Southwest Airlines' primary Houston hub with lots of domestic service. Often the better choice for domestic travelers

By Train/Transit

  • The METRORail Green and Purple lines stop at Convention District station, right next to the GRB. From Midtown, EaDo, or the Museum District, this is the easiest way to reach the venue
  • No METRORail connection from Hobby Airport -- you need a bus transfer or rideshare from Hobby
  • Amtrak's Sunset Limited stops in Houston three times per week but is not practical for most travelers. Houston is a fly-in or drive-in city

By Car

  • I-45 / I-10 / US-59 all converge in downtown Houston. Follow signs for the Convention Center or Discovery Green
  • Convention Center garage available, plus additional lots along Dallas Street and Polk Street. Expect $15-25 per day, cheaper than most major US HYROX cities
  • Houston is a car city. Traffic is heavy during rush hours but manageable on weekends. The Convention Center area is well-signed

Where to Stay

  • Downtown (Convention Center) -- the Hilton Americas and Marriott Marquis connect to the GRB by skybridge. Walk to HYROX without going outside. Premium pricing but maximum convenience
  • Hotels along Main Street and Texas Avenue are within walking distance of the venue, with good mid-range options
  • Midtown -- bars, restaurants, and more affordable hotels just south of downtown. METRORail to the Convention Center takes 5 minutes
  • The Galleria / Uptown area has Houston's main shopping and hotel district, about 20-30 minutes from downtown by car
  • EaDo (East Downtown) -- next to the Convention Center with boutique hotels, breweries, and food halls. Walkable to the venue

Training in Houston

Houston has a massive fitness market -- gyms, CrossFit boxes, and training facilities are spread across the sprawling metro area. The warm climate allows outdoor training year-round, though the summer months require careful heat management.

  • CrossFit Houston -- one of the original US affiliate gyms, with experienced coaches and a solid HYROX-prep community
  • Fitness Connection is a budget-friendly chain with multiple Houston locations, with Concept2 rowers and functional training areas
  • Camp Gladiator -- Texas-born outdoor bootcamp with dozens of Houston locations. The full-body functional workouts transfer well to HYROX stations
  • Life Time Fitness has several Houston locations with functional training areas, SkiErgs, rowers, and sled tracks

Running Routes

  • Buffalo Bayou Park -- a paved path runs along the bayou from downtown west to Shepherd Drive, about 5 miles each way. Relatively flat with good shade from live oak trees and water fountains along the route
  • Memorial Park -- 1,500 acres with a popular 3-mile crushed gravel loop and paved paths for longer runs. Also has a fitness area with pull-up bars
  • The loop around Rice University is a flat, shaded 3.2-mile run. Hermann Park next door adds another 1.5-mile loop. Close to Museum District hotels
  • Terry Hershey Park has a 7-mile paved trail along the energy corridor in west Houston. Flat, shaded, and less crowded than the urban trails

Race Day Tips

  • Arrive at least 90 minutes before your wave. The GRB is enormous -- give yourself time to find the correct hall
  • Pick up your bib and timing chip at registration. Photo ID required
  • Weather -- late March in Houston averages 65-78F (18-25C) with moderate humidity. It can feel warm inside the Convention Center, so dress in light, breathable layers
  • Bring your own gels, snacks, and electrolytes. Discovery Green across the street has food trucks, or walk to one of many downtown restaurants
  • Spectators get free entry. The GRB's high ceilings and open floor plan give decent viewing
  • After the race: EaDo has good breweries (8th Wonder, True Anomaly) and food halls within walking distance. For Tex-Mex, try Irma's Original downtown or El Tiempo Cantina in Midtown
