HYROX Monterrey 2026
HYROX Monterrey 2026 takes place April 18-19, bringing Mexico's industrial capital into the race calendar. Monterrey is different from every other Mexican HYROX host city. Framed by the dramatic Sierra Madre Oriental mountains, it is a city defined by industry, ambition, and a culture of hard work — traits that align naturally with the HYROX competitive spirit. Monterrey is often called "the most American city in Mexico" for its business culture and direct connections to the US.
April in Monterrey is warm (25-32°C) with low humidity and minimal rain — good conditions for travelling athletes. The city's functional fitness scene is well developed, driven by a health-conscious professional class and strong CrossFit community. For athletes flying in from the US, Monterrey is less than two hours from multiple major American cities.

Getting There
By Air
- General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (MTY) — Monterrey's main airport, about 24 km north of the city centre. Direct flights from major US cities (Dallas, Houston, Miami, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles) and from Mexico City, Guadalajara, Cancun, and other Mexican hubs
- Aeropuerto del Norte (NTR) handles some low-cost domestic flights — confirm which airport your flight uses
- There is no direct metro link from MTY to central Monterrey. The main options are taxi (approximately MXN 350-500 to the city centre), Uber (cheaper, ~MXN 200-300), and private transfer
- The journey from MTY to the city centre is approximately 30-45 minutes depending on traffic
By Metro
- Monterrey Metro Line 1 — runs east-west through the city centre. Key stations include Central de Autobuses, Cuauhtémoc, Zaragoza (central), Padre Mier, and San Nicolás
- Monterrey Metro Line 2 — runs north-south through central Monterrey. Connects Hospital area in the north through Centro to General Anaya in the south
- The metro is clean, affordable, and covers key central areas. Not the most extensive network but useful for central and hotel district movement
- Interchange at Cuauhtémoc station between Lines 1 and 2
By Ride-Hailing & Taxi
- Uber is widely used in Monterrey and is generally the most convenient option for most journeys. The app works throughout the city
- Taxis are available but Uber is typically cheaper and removes the need for cash negotiation
- Monterrey traffic in the financial district and near Cintermex can be heavy during weekday peak hours. Plan accordingly if travelling to the venue by road
Where to Stay
Monterrey has a strong business hotel market. Staying near CINTERMEX, the financial district, or central Barrio Antiguo gives good access to venues and the best of the city.
- San Pedro Garza García — Monterrey's wealthiest municipality and premier business district, adjacent to the main city. Excellent hotels (Marriott, Westin, Intercontinental), top restaurants, and the Chepito shopping district. Slightly removed from the historic centre but well connected by Uber
- Centro / Barrio Antiguo — Monterrey's historic heart around the Macroplaza. Good mid-range hotels and the most authentic Monterrey experience. Walking distance to Metro Line 2
- CINTERMEX / Valle — if the venue is at CINTERMEX, staying in the Valle neighbourhood minimises race day travel. Modern, upscale residential and commercial area
- Santa Catarina / Carretera Nacional — budget options along the main eastern approaches. Less convenient for venues but accessible by metro
- Monterrey hotel pricing is competitive, particularly in business hotels that drop rates on weekends
Tip: San Pedro Garza García is where Monterrey's fitness community concentrates — CrossFit boxes, running clubs, and boutique studios are clustered here. It is also where you will find Monterrey's best restaurants for pre and post-race meals.
Training in Monterrey
Monterrey has one of Mexico's most developed CrossFit and functional fitness scenes, concentrated in the San Pedro and Valle neighbourhoods. The city's business culture drives demand for performance-oriented training.

Running Routes
- Parque Fundidora — Monterrey's premier urban park, built on the site of a former steel foundry. An extensive running path network through 135 hectares of parkland with a 5+ km perimeter loop. Flat, well-maintained, and hugely popular with local runners. The most recommended running venue in the city
- Bosque del Parque San Andrés — a large forested park in the Garza García area popular with trail runners
- Río Santa Catarina — the dry riverbed of the Santa Catarina has been developed into a linear park with cycling and running paths stretching across the city. Flat and accessible from central Monterrey
- Loma Larga ridge — for those wanting elevation, the Loma Larga ridge trail offers hill running with panoramic views of the city. Accessible from the Obispado area
- April in Monterrey is warm and dry — ideal running conditions in the morning. Run by 7:30 AM before temperatures rise. The Sierra Madre backdrop makes morning runs particularly scenic
